Civilian Support
|
Authorized Civilians The religious support of authorized civilians is also the responsibility of the UMT. Authorized civilians broadly encompasses those who rely on the Army for food or salary. Thus, DA civilians, enemy prisoners of war, civilian detainees, confined and hospitalized individuals, and refugees all are authorized to receive religious support from the UMT. Authorized civilians usually receive religious support from a UMT specified to the area. For instance, military hospitals and regional confinement facilities typically obtain religious support from a UMT assigned to the facility. Although, the UMT for hospitals generally includes more than one chaplain and assistant. Authorized civilians dietary, medical, and religious articles for wear are also a concern for the UMT. While the Army makes reasonable attempts at meeting the needs of authorized civilians, these concerns are limited by factors such as safety and military mission. A common theme throughout religious support, reiterated here due to the religious preference of current detainees, fully recognizes the diversity in faith traditions and respects the practices and needs thereof. |
