Coping with Deployment
|
Community One theme of this website is the need to maintain a community of people which surround and support each other, especially through difficult times like a deployment. Those not militarily affiliated must hunt for communities to be involved with, such as church groups or groups of friends from elsewhere. However, the military has strategic support groups specializing in helping military families cope with deployments. Please actively participate in a support group, the rewards are too numerous to list! Family Readiness Groups I can not stress the importance of the Family Readiness Group (FRG) enough. The FRG helps soldiers and families cope with deployments and preparing for deployment. At this time, a list of meetings is not posted online however, you may contact the 15th Support Brigade FRG leader (Charles Lyons) @ 287-7039 or charles.lyons2@hood.army.mil. Visit the Fort Hood FRG's website for training dates and opportunities.

Ideas to Help Kids The BIG Postcard. One of my supervisors makes it a habit to purchase a packet of extra-large note cards. While away,
he sends notes to his kids telling them some of the things he's doing and mails it. When the mail comes, the kids know right
away when dad has written due to the post card's unusual size. For a special touch, he always draws an oversized stick figure
involved with some activity he recently did.
